The Engineering Technician 4 role involves providing technical support to engineers, managing technical data, producing engineering documentation, and conducting tests to assist with engineering evaluations.

Responsibilities
Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks
Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes
Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics)
Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data
Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports
May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis

Must Have Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience
One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications: NNS Apprentice School graduate, Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate, High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience, High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
Ability to work independently
Leadership, communication, analytical, team building, collaboration, and flexibility skills required
Public speaking skills are necessary
Occasional travel to Newport News, Virginia and other Naval Shipyards will be required
Preferred
Senior enlisted Submarine, military, government or technical background preferred
Experience in shipboard maintenance, shipyard/repair activity and/or fleet support
Proficiency in the latest version of Microsoft Suite particularly Excel, Word and Power Point is desired
Extensive knowledge in specialized functions
A wide and comprehensive acquaintance with, and understanding of, both general and specific aspects of the job and their practical application to complex problems and situations ordinarily encountered
Minimal supervision
Work may be done without established procedures
May assist in orienting, training, assigning and checking the work of lower level employees
Often designated as lead worker
Duties & tasks are varied and complex
Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of problems and issues
Contacts are frequent with individuals representing outside organizations, and/or individuals of significant importance within the company
Contacts involve planning and preparation of the communications, require skill, tact, persuasion and/or negotiation to accomplish the objectives of the communication
