The role involves a variety of engineering tasks including design, development, assembly, maintenance, and testing of complex maritime systems, requiring hands-on field-testing experience and the ability to work aboard offshore vessels.

Responsibilities
Performing engineering work related to the conceptualization, design, evaluation, planning, testing and operation of prototype marine systems and ocean instruments
Preparing for and executing pier-side and at-sea testing
Traveling in support of testing, approximately 10-30% of the year
Design and fabrication of oceanographic moorings
Maintenance and operation of oceanographic instrumentation and unmanned platforms
Writing procedures in support of testing
Implementing lessons learned from previous projects
Optimization of test gear and assets going to sea
Qualification
Required
BS degree in marine engineering, ocean engineering, mechanical engineering or related fields
Professional experience beyond 5 years is desired; however, we will consider less experience for highly qualified candidates
Hands-on field-testing experience
Ability to work in small, fast-paced engineering R&D programs as a team or individual contributor, potentially with minimal technical supervision
Strong mechanical and/or electrical aptitude with the ability to independently solve moderately complex problems
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
Ability to use basic hand tools and electrical test and measurement equipment
Experience on ships, planning and executing deployment of moorings, buoys, and UxV's
Excellent verbal and written communication to accurately document and report findings to colleagues, customer, vendors, etc
Organized and detail oriented
Strong demonstrated safety awareness and management
Preferred
Experience with SolidWorks, CAD, MATLAB, Linux
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
Experience on ships and offshore rigging
Experience with mechanical production and sustainment of maritime systems
Experience with basic data plotting and analysis
Five or more years of professional experience
