Engineering Technician – Materials & Process Development
Advanced Magnet Lab, Inc. (AML) is a high-tech company located in Melbourne, FL, seeking an engineering technician to support materials and process development for permanent magnet materials. The role involves hands-on development of magnet materials, collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, and support for transitioning from pilot scale to commercial production.
Responsibilities
Work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and technicians to support both manufacturing and research and development efforts
Active and hands-on involvement with managing, interpreting, characterizing, and reporting magnet material experiments
Support the science and engineering team with the development and prototyping of AML’s permanent magnets, including a focus on understanding performance and variables with various materials
Support transition from manual processes and prototyping environment to product manufacturing including processes, production. manufacturing robotics / automation and qualification
Collaborate with applications analysis and design team with various magnet-based product concepts
Support business development activities including engaging with new customer products / applications
Qualification
Required
Minimum 3 years of experience with hands-on experience with metal casting, metal processing, or high-temperature systems
Comfortability working with chemicals, powders, and industrial materials
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to clearly communicate with engineering, technical support, sales, and management
Attention to detail and self-motivation with a commitment to safety and quality within an organization requiring significant attention to detail
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Excellent time management skills, with proven ability to meet deadlines
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
A willingness to help in other areas such as manufacturing tooling and automation development
Commitment to safety and good laboratory practices
Combination of desk work and hands-on assembly, prototypes and testing
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
Manual dexterity to evaluate, install, and modify equipment
Preferred
A prior background with metallic materials processing, high-temperature processes, or other specialty metallurgy processes
Experience with basic analytical or materials testing techniques
Science or engineering background in relevant field, i.e. BS, MS in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, or related field
Prior experience within the permanent magnet industry – research and development or manufacturing
