LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS SPECIALIST
USAJOBS is seeking a Legislative Affairs Specialist within the Headquarters US Indo-Pacific Command. Responsibilities
You will advise the Commander, USINDOPACOM, staff, components, sub-unified commands and direct reporting units on Congressional legislative issues
You will establish and maintain a hard copy file and electronic biography on each member of Congress on the following House and Senate committees and subcommittees
You will conduct long-range legislative forecasting to identify emerging issues relevant to the command’s mission and analyzes proposed legislation for potential conflicts with existing policy or international agreements
You will develop comprehensive CODEL/STAFFDEL itineraries aligned with USINDOPACOM’s strategic communication objectives
You will respond to outside inquiries concerning established USINDOPACOM policy and provides guidance to USINDOPACOM staff and subordinate commands on questions relating to CODEL/STAFFDEL visits
Qualification
Required
Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required
This position requires occasional travel
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector
Specialized experience demonstrates: 1) Researching, analyzing, and compiling information concerning various types of legislation such as defense bills/issues, congressional hearings and related news articles under the direction of a supervisor; 2) Maintaining a status report of select bills throughout the legislative process disseminating to appropriate personnel ensuring information is accurate and timely under the direction and guidance of a supervisor; and 3) Establishing and maintaining hard copy and electronic subject matter files on legislative issues/actions

Specialized experience demonstrates: 1) Researching, analyzing, and compiling information concerning various types of legislation such as defense bills/issues, congressional hearings and related news articles; 2) Maintaining a status report of select bills throughout the legislative process disseminating to appropriate personnel ensuring information is accurate and timely; 3) Participating in coordinating travel arrangements including departure, meetings and briefings, lodging, transportation, social and/or recreational activities, and spouse and family member activities as required and allowed by regulations; 4) Monitoring various legislative meetings/sessions to inform personnel of significant issues or modifications; and 5) Establishing and maintaining hard copy and electronic subject matter files on legislative issues/actions
Benefits
A Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) of 8.64% will be added to the stated salary.
