Inspections Specialist

Responsibilities

Providing the CBP Juvenile Coordinator with timely, independent, and reliable information, and fact-based analysis from assigned inspections and assessments concerning CBP's compliance with the Flores Settlement Agreement (FSA) and related internal policy
Fully participating and leading a team of JCD Inspections Specialists in all phases of the planning and organization of assigned on-site or virtual FSA compliance inspection projects
Developing possible solutions to issues identified to assist management over inspected facilities to address identified programmatic issues, improve operational effectiveness or efficiency, strengthen existing internal controls, and/or overcome impediments to the achievement of CBP objectives and goals
Guiding team members in writing individual sections of reports, entailing internal coordination with team members and external coordination with agency partners, including the operators and the Office of Chief Counsel, to obtain statistical and operational data and ensure accurate, complete, and timely Court reports
Identifying the CBP offices or other locations that will be visited as part of the review and prepares a work schedule detailing the assignments to complete the fieldwork aspect of the project

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Implementing laws and regulations, court precedents, and current program instructions concerning juveniles; Planning, organizing, and preparing all phases of complex analytical assessments of CBP administrative, operational, and/or financial internal control process reviews and other analytical assessments; Leading discussions during entrance and exit conferences held with CBP management to include the review of inspection results and addressing possible solutions to the issues identified; Developing, implementing, and monitoring inspection protocols intended to assess operational compliance with the Flores Settlement Agreement and CBP policies and procedures pertaining to the detention and care of juveniles

Background Investigation: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment in order to promote the agency's core values of vigilance, service to country, and integrity

All employees new to the federal government must serve a one year probationary period during the first year of his/her initial permanent federal appointment to determine fitness for continued employment
