DISTINGUISED SCIENTIST/ENGINEER for PRINCIPAL WEAPON SYSTEMS SAFETY
USAJOBS is seeking a Distinguished Scientist/Engineer for Principal Weapon Systems Safety in the Technical Division of Strategic Systems Programs (SSP). The role involves serving as the Command Safety Principal for all SSP programs, providing technical insight and guidance in the development and operations of nuclear weapon systems and conventional hypersonic weapons safety.

Responsibilities
You will serve as the Command Safety Principal for all SSP programs to include Navy Strategic Weapon System, Columbia Class CMC Production, Submarine Launched Cruise Missile – Nuclear, SSGN Attack Weapons System, and Conventional Prompt Strike
You will provide technical insight and guidance in development and operations of nuclear weapon systems and conventional hypersonic weapons safety, and the nuclear weapons surety
You will provide oversight of Safety Risk Management practices and their implementation across multiple Nuclear and Hypersonic programs and projects
You will be responsible for planning and execution of all Nuclear Weapon Safety reviews for all future Fleet Ballistic Missile programs and modifications
You will represent the Navy’s FBM safety and surety programs at the national level across services and internationally in support of the Polaris Sales Agreement and Mutual Defense Agreement with the U.K
You will plan and conduct all Operational Safety Reviews and Special Safety studies required to grant and maintain approval for nuclear weapon operations
You will substantially influence a development engineering portfolio budget of $17B
Qualification
Required
Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Public Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-278e within 30 days of appointment
Within the Department of War (DoW), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final TOP SECRET SCI security clearance prior to entrance on duty
This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
