LEAD FIREFIGHTER (BLS/ HAZMAT TECH)

Responsibilities

You will perform hazard and risk assessment and conduct a complete incident analysis
You will comply with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and perform work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment
You will combat fire and rescue personnel aboard ships
You will direct assigned crew in the performance of crash/reuse and firefighting duties as assigned
You will perform structural firefighting duties
You will direct firefighting crew in the operation of firefighting vehicle and equipment
You will perform lead functions such as assigning work, balancing workload and provide training

Required

Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level
Applicants must meet the Department of Defense (DoD) certification requirements
Candidates for firefighter positions must not have reached their 37th birthday by date of appointment
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
This is a bargaining unit position
You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present
This is a Mission Essential position
The employee is required to work a 72-hour week which includes weekends and holidays
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the G-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Detecting fire hazards (potential and immediate) and determining corrective action; 2) Providing emergency assistance (first aid, HAZMAT, etc.) in accordance with safety standards and regulations; 3) Driving firefighting vehicles and operating basic and specialized firefighting equipment such as fire alarm systems and fire extinguishing equipment; and 4) Leading a crew of firefighters (i.e. directing drills, assigning work, etc.)
This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Firefighter I and II, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Airport Firefighter, Hazardous Materials Technician, and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification
