Director of PreK-5 Mathematics and Science

Valley View School District 365U is seeking a Director of PreK-5 Mathematics and Science to provide leadership and direction in the continuous improvement of the district's math and science programs. The role ensures high-quality, evidence-based instruction for all PreK-5 students and collaborates with stakeholders to support college, career, and life readiness for every learner.

Primary/Secondary Education

Responsibilities

Lead the implementation of the Illinois Comprehensive Numeracy Plan, ensuring math instruction emphasizes conceptual understanding, procedural skill, and fluency, and real-world application with equal intensity
Direct the transition to three-dimensional science learning, integrating scientific and engineering practices, crosscutting concepts, and disciplinary core ideas
Provide leadership in the development of effective educational programs for all students within Tier 1 core curriculum and tiered student supports, including interventions for students
Using a curriculum review cycle, formulate and lead innovative curricular programs that improve academic outcomes and align with Public Act 103-0402 and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
Lead the analysis of academic data to identify program areas for a continuous cycle of improvement and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions
Identify and facilitate the learning needs of PreK-5 teaching staff regarding mathematics and science
Systematically lead and support instructional coaches with student-centered coaching cycles with a focus on student outcomes. Support coaches in building their capacity to serve as leaders in curriculum
Work in partnership with other stakeholders, including all Directors in Educational Services supporting MTSS, multilingual, student supports, and data and assessment
Lead and support the planning of professional development designed to meet specific needs, focusing on research-based best practices
Lead and support the monitoring of instructional programming in schools to evaluate and improve practices using coaching, collaboration, and modeling
Support and lead the district's internal review process for school improvement efforts in conjunction with the District Strategic Plan
Lead and support building leaders in the work of professional learning communities utilizing data to drive the instructional shifts
Provide leadership and oversight for the programming needs of elementary specials courses (e.g., Art, Music, Physical Education, and Library) to ensure a well-rounded and high-quality educational experience for all PreK-5 students
Prepare drafts of necessary Board policies and administrative rules and submit the annual budget for the assigned departmental areas
Collaborate in efforts to engage stakeholders and enhance partnerships with family and community partners
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent PreK-5 and his/her designee(s)

Required

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with Principal Endorsement Required
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction with extensive experience in curriculum development and alignment of PK-5 curriculum with standards and assessment
Experience in supporting administrators and staff and using data to drive instruction
Extensive experience and knowledge in relation to instruction, systems, and facilitating the use of research-based best practices related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment
Lead and support innovative curricular programs that improve academic and social-emotional outcomes in conjunction with supervisory staff, principals, and teachers
Experience and knowledge in relation to systemic improvement processes and quality criteria
An administrative leadership style based on effective human relations and a continuous improvement mindset
Excellent communication, presentation, and listening skills
Compassion and enthusiasm for effective team leadership to motivate high standards and continuous improvement
Demonstrated ability to promote and facilitate the integration and articulation of student academic experience from pre-school through 5th grade
Thorough understanding of the Illinois Learning Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

Preferred

Degree in teaching at the elementary, middle, or high school level from an accredited college or university preferred, or additional extensive preparation in educational administration and curriculum/instruction, leadership, and continuous improvement
Related elementary teaching endorsements preferred
Minimum of five years of successful experience in teaching and building administration experience preferred
