Assistant Beach Parks Manager

The Park Board of Trustees in Galveston, TX is looking to hire a full-time Assistant Beach Parks Manager. This role involves assisting with the management of park operations, ensuring customer service excellence, and overseeing staffing and budgetary responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Assist with managing the successful operation of three Galveston Island East End Parks: Stewart Beach, East Beach and the East End Lagoon Nature Preserve
Ensure standards of excellence for park operations with emphasis on daily park operations, including customer service, facilities and park grounds upkeep, staffing, special events, capital improvement execution, budgetary oversight, and special projects
Provide hands-on assistance to meet operational standards
Ensure the beachfront is maintained properly and all trash and recycling are collected
Assist with all aspects of park operations, including supply orders, cash reconciliation, credit card transactions, and annual passes
Note any facility or mechanical issues and either correct them or notify the appropriate department or vendor to ensure they are dealt with in a timely manner
Provide direct supervision to personnel, including hiring, counseling, coaching, and training
Develop park staffing schedules, and assist employees with any pay discrepancies
Review employees' work and provide constructive feedback for improvement
Assist in developing and managing the parks budget and capital improvement plan
Develop and lead a preventive maintenance program for the parks
Work with contract labor and internal and external resources during special events
Operate company vehicles and equipment including heavy machinery when needed while abiding by safety precautions

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
At least 18 years of age
At least three years experience in manual or skilled labor
At least three years customer service experience with excellent customer service skills
At least one year leadership experience, or demonstrated strengths as a standout leader among coworkers
Understanding of general finance and budgeting
Facility operations experience, with an eye for preventive maintenance
Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) certification or ability to become certified (CTA training provided by the Galveston Island Park Board of Trustees upon hire)
Fluent in English both verbally and in writing
Ability to operate a passenger vehicle and all-terrain vehicle
Experience backing trailers and operating heavy and light machinery safely and efficiently
Basic computer and data entry skills
Excellent customer service skills

Preferred

A degree in parks and recreation management or a related field
Experience working with environmental groups or nonprofit organizations
