Junior Cybersecurity Analyst

Inside Higher Ed is seeking a Junior Cybersecurity Analyst to support the Cyber Security and Programs Manager in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of College information systems. The role involves monitoring cybersecurity threats, implementing security controls, and collaborating with IT staff to protect the College's data and systems.

Responsibilities

Assists in monitoring, identifying, and responding to cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and anomalies affecting College systems and users, under direction from the Cyber Security and Programs Manager
Assists with implementing and documenting security controls, policies, and procedures related to user access, system security, and data protection
Supports the Systems Administrator and Helpdesk Manager and Systems Administrator in applying operating system updates, patches, and firmware updates to servers and endpoints with attention to security best practices
Assists in analyzing security alerts, logs, and incidents escalated by IT staff and reports findings to appropriate supervisors
Assists with verification of system backups and supports business continuity and disaster recovery readiness
Maintains documentation related to security assessments, incidents, mitigation actions, and compliance activities
Supports Systems Administrator and Helpdesk Manager and Systems Administrator as needed in matters related to system security and incident response
Logs and records all work tasks in help desk ticketing system
Performs assigned IT security–related tasks and general support requests
Mentors IT Support Generalist and IT work-study student workers
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities in formal training and informal training (out of class, online, etc.)
Acts as a first line of defense against cybercrime by maintaining diligence in detecting, reporting, and/or correcting situations which may indicate a data or systems threat. Recognizes malware symptoms and resolve them. Reports security incidents (for example if a user password is compromised) to supervisor
Reports any suspected cyber related security issues to the Cyber Security and Programs Manager
Assists with Disaster Recovery Exercises
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or Information Sciences and Technology and a minimum of two years related experience
Relevant cybersecurity certification(s) required
Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, risk mitigation, malware awareness, and secure system practices
Working familiarity with printers, computer hardware, network cabling, and Anti-virus programs
Excellent written and oral communication skills
The ability to work independently and prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
The ability to work with others in a professional manner
Must demonstrate a high level of confidentiality
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
Ability to write simple correspondence
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the College
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Preferred

Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST), risk assessment, incident response, and business continuity concepts
Experience with security tools such as Wireshark, endpoint protection platforms, or security monitoring utilities
Bi-lingual is a plus
