Radio Installation Technician

Responsibilities
Provides installation, service, maintenance, and removal of mobile two-way radio communications systems, mobile computing hardware, structured wiring systems, emergency lights and siren equipment in Chesterfield County vehicles
Duties also include supporting the county's public safety radio communications by programming, troubleshooting, and evaluating hand-held radios and installed vehicle radios working on the county's 800MHz trunking system
Other project support related to public safety vehicle equipment and communications and information (i.e. bracket fabrication, etc.)
Perform other work as required
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED
Must be able to distinguish between various colored wires
Ability to understand and operate hand/power tools and electronic test & measurement equipment (wattmeter, multimeter, oscilloscope, etc.)
Two years of experience in communication-electronics career field or comparable certification or training, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Experience in vehicle radio installations and working with vehicle electrical systems desired
Ability to perform physically demanding work including, but not limited to standing for prolonged periods, squatting, stooping, bending, twisting, stretching, crawling, reaching overhead, and working in awkward positions without choice or variety
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's 'Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy' and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check
Preferred
Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) Basic Certified Installation Technician completion highly desired (is part of career development program)
