Associate Attorney - Employment Law

Kelleher + Holland, LLC is seeking an Associate Attorney to support a growing and nationally recognized employment law practice. The role involves advising employers on workplace issues, handling administrative charges, and supporting or leading employment-related litigation matters in state and federal forums.

Responsibilities

Advise employers on compliance and risk management involving wage and hour, restrictive covenants, discrimination, executive compensation, harassment, retaliation, leave and accommodation issues, discipline, and separations
Draft and review employment-related policies, handbooks, offer letters, separation agreements, restrictive covenant agreements, and related documentation
Work with transactional team to assist on employment, benefits and executive compensation matters
Assist Employee Benefits team on various matters related to benefits plans and executive compensation programs
Draft position statements and responses to charges before agencies (e.g., EEOC, IDHR, and local commissions)
Support mediation/conciliation efforts and negotiate resolutions
Assist with or manage employment litigation matters in Illinois state and federal courts, including pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motion practice, and pretrial preparation
Support hearings, conferences, and trial preparation; coordinate with clients and witnesses
Conduct legal research and draft memos, client advisories, and litigation briefs
Prepare and argue routine motions as experience permits
Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and internal stakeholders
Track deadlines, maintain organized case files, and support matter budgeting and staffing

Required

J.D. from an accredited law school
Licensed and in good standing in Illinois
Approximately 3 years of attorney experience
1–2 years of litigation experience
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines with attention to detail
Professional judgment, discretion, and a client-service mindset

Preferred

Prior experience in employment law (counseling employers and/or litigating employment disputes)
Experience with agency charges (EEOC/IDHR) and workplace investigations
Familiarity with restrictive covenants, trade secrets, and executive separations
Exposure to wage and hour issues (FLSA/IMWL) and leave/accommodations (FMLA/ADA)
Deposition experience (taking or defending) and meaningful motion practice
Experience with ERISA and Executive Compensation Matters
Large law firm experience
