Clinical Research Coordinator

Responsibilities

Assisting in the implementation of research protocols using scientific methods
Working with physicians, clinical nurses and patients to identify and recruit eligible patients
Obtaining all necessary approvals and informed consent forms
Screening and enrolling patients into the study
Assessing patient participation on a continuous basis in light of ethical considerations
Acting as a liaison between the patient and other members of the team regarding the research protocol
Responsible for database development and data entry of patient data for the study
Organizing visits and patient family interviews for participating physicians
Logging in all applicable data elements as requested and coordinating information and supply transfer as necessary to complete study elements at multiple sites
Summarizing data and information for review and analysis by the investigators and project team
Organizing, establishing and maintaining the research database and using the database to extract information for reports, papers and feedback to the study team
Collecting, compiling, tabulating and analyzing research data
Ensuring that data is entered into the database accurately and in a timely fashion
Reviewing and analyzing significant data and statistics in the computer file
Working to ensure that appropriate control systems are in place to monitor the progress of data acquisition and to define new approaches to data management
Periodically assessing quality and completeness of database and patients' files
Maintaining all required records
Serving as a resource in providing statistical information from the database
Assisting in writing research publications
Performing independent literature searches and selecting references for final publication
Preparing data and graphics
Assisting in presenting study findings to interested groups both inside and outside of the hospital
Performing administrative duties such as protocol design, data analysis, quality assurance, grant preparation, documentation for Human Studies approval, study progress reports, and manuscript preparation
Coordinating and implementing research study according to the study protocol
Assisting with preliminary planning for the study including performing literature searches and developing data forms
Assisting in the formulation of research aims and protocols
Demonstrating understanding and knowledge of designated study protocols and methods of implementation
Contacting patients and/or families via written and telephone communications for the purpose of explaining the nature of the study and setting up visits and interviews, including the coordination of international patients
Arranging and coordinating scheduling of initial assessment and subsequent assessments, if necessary, as outlined in study protocol
Scheduling OR, PET, MRI scans for human subjects; in addition, scheduling other study procedures for human studies
Collecting blood samples and setting up blood draw kits
Arranging transport of samples for processing
Collecting, analyzing and assuring the quality of pertinent patient documentation according to established guidelines
Maintaining confidential patient files including all correspondence, information, raw data and follow-up status of all study patients
Documenting and maintaining specific protocol information and communications according to the established guidelines of the unit
Monitoring study by gathering information and reviewing materials, visiting patients in the study, discussing problems and exchanging information with clinical nurses
Assessing learning needs and educating patients and family as appropriate regarding protocol management and participation in research project
Organizing project team meetings and preparing the agenda under direction of the principle investigator
Assessing patient participation on a continuous basis in light of ethical considerations
Acting as liaison between patient and other members of the team regarding the research protocol
Responsible for developing and maintaining a web page for study information in conjunction with the Principle Investigator, Administrative Director, Marketing and the Research Management Office
Designing/implementing advertisements for research study recruitment
Establishing effective working relationships with the project team
Overseeing the post-award review of government grants to assure institutional and sponsor compliance, budgetary appropriateness
Reconciling and analyzing monthly financial statements
Maintaining communication channels with hospital grant department and addressing any administrative or compliance issue in a timely manner

Required

Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required
Careful attention to detail and good organizational skills
Ability to follow directions
