System Engineer, Vibration Analysis

Responsibilities
Serves as Combustion Turbines & Distribution Resources organization’s vibration expert (consultant and advisor) relative to performance analysis or maintenance program processes and methods to corporate and plant management
Serves as the authority in Vibration Analysis and as such, provides technical guidance to engineering project managers, engineers and technicians in the more complex and difficult aspects of the performance improvement programs
Provides technical instruction, advice, training, and transfer of technology to engineers at each fossil plant, hydro region and central office
Performs or directs other engineering professionals in the most difficult tasks related to developing and deploying processes, methods, tools, and technologies involved in the testing, collection, evaluation, and analysis of plant operating data and maintenance methods in support of delivering optimum vibration solutions to improve power plant performance and reliability
Responsible for defining the scope of work that is required to analyze and evaluate trends in power plant and operation data; responsible for developing and deploying specific processes and methods and maintaining governance of supporting systems and technologies; responsible for ensuring consistent deployment and utilization of deliverables
Provides and improves analytical tools and methods to be used to increase awareness of plant areas in need of improvement for corporate and plant managers, production management and personnel, engineering management and personnel
Resolves equipment problems at existing facilities by evaluating dynamic measurements on a wide variety of plant equipment or systems to enable a thorough analysis of component conditions at all times
Responsible for data collection, analysis, balance adjustment calculations and documentation of periodic vibration data from turbines, generators and other rotating equipment
Conducts and directs diagnostic tests on plant equipment to identify and quantify anomalies and recommends problem resolution
Responsible for the development and implementation of optimized maintenance methods, policies and processes including using practical application of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Preventive Maintenance (PM), and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) philosophy, methodology, and industry best practices
Responsible for standardization and replication of related processes, methods, lessons learned and industry best practices
Maintains industry awareness of state-of-the-art technology developments in vibration monitoring and maintenance methods
Routinely is asked to participate on or lead a multi-functional team of stakeholders to ensure unilateral buy-in of objectives and to determine best approaches for obtaining business objectives
Qualification
Required
B.S. degree in mechanical or electrical engineering discipline or comparable related engineering discipline from an accredited school of engineering
Several years experience performing fully competent engineering assignments involving complex features such as conflicting design requirements or difficult coordination requirements related to vibration & frequency analysis and balancing
License as a Professional Engineer is highly desirable (may be required in accordance with TVA Business Practice 15)
Must be willing and qualified to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by TVA procedures during peak periods
Advanced knowledge of principles of power plant operations, maintenance and equipment performance analysis
Knowledge of engineering theory as applied to power plant performance analysis specializing in vibration and frequency analysis and maintenance processes including RCM, PM and PdM
Detailed knowledge of and experience with engineering economics and economic analysis
Demonstrated leadership skills and effective oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of PC software including Excel, Word, MS Project, Adobe Acrobat and Data Ware
