Tennessee Valley Authority is seeking a Mechanical Engineer who will serve as a Subject Matter Expert on multidisciplinary teams involved in the planning and design of complex projects. The role includes providing expert advice on mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with building codes, and leading key programs related to energy and safety.

Responsibilities

Serves as Mechanical Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) on teams composed of multidisciplinary Engineers, Architects, Interior Designers, Project Managers, internal and external stakeholders engaged in the planning, design and modifications of complex, multidisciplinary unique projects of various types at TVA
Provides expert technical advice on all mechanical systems for TVA corporate offices and mission critical facilities as well as regional, transmission and generating facilities sites
Is an expert, provides guidance and ensures compliance on applicable building codes and standards
Make decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the organization to receive important questions and to plan and coordinate work
Serves as the technical Mechanical Engineering SME supporting building Operations and Maintenance (O&M)
Identifies and develops opportunities to improve processes and facilities
Applies specialized knowledge and advanced techniques in the principles and practices of mechanical systems including utilities (air, fuel, water, electricity, sewage, etc.), equipment (HVAC, boilers, chillers, elevators, etc.), Building Automation Systems (BAS) and the engineering principals behind these processes (thermodynamic cycles, fluid flow, combustion, water treatment, heat exchangers, pumps, etc
Leads key programs such as implementation of TVA standards and guidelines, Federal Government requirements and energy, safety and environmental programs

Required

A B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school
Full competence as a Mechanical Engineer as demonstrated by several years of experience at the senior level as a Project Engineer or Discipline Engineer
Demonstrate experience in hydronic systems, critical infrastructure, secure facilities, spaces, data centers, and controls centers
Demonstrate experience in performing mechanical design, calculations, and controls system
Demonstrate experience in performing equipment selection, such as Chillers, Boilers, Cooling Towers, Air Handlers, and Pumps
Demonstrate experience in ASHRAE Guidelines, International Building Code, International Mechanical Code, and International Plumbing Code
Demonstrate experience in Startup and Commissioning

Preferred

An M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school is desirable
License as a Professional Engineer is preferred (may be required in accordance with TVA Business Practice 15)
