Pump & Motor Technician
The City of Mill Valley is seeking a Pump & Motor Technician to perform routine and emergency maintenance on electrical, electronic, and pneumatic equipment used in wastewater treatment and water operations. The role involves inspecting, testing, and maintaining various mechanical and electrical systems, as well as ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational guidelines.

Responsibilities
Installs, programs, inspects, troubleshoots, and adjusts electrical and mechanical equipment, instrumentation, and related information systems
Performs tests and maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment; interprets readings and outputs of equipment; ensures proper functioning of equipment and related information systems
Reviews operator’s manuals and other established guidelines; ensures equipment and information systems are operated in accordance with established guidelines
Performs basic programming for utilities information systems; programs with ladder logic and relay logic; operates PLCs, RTUs and associated inputs/outputs; operates VFDs; performs telecommunications networking
Ensures proper operation of SCADA system; identifies and troubleshoots issues pertaining to SCADA system
Initiates work orders pertaining to utilities equipment and information systems; ensures work orders are accurate and complete; performs record-keeping functions
Serves as a liaison to manufacturers, contractors, City personnel and other internal or external parties with respect to utilities equipment, instruments, and related systems
Performs work with relative independence and judgment with initiative required to meet department operating requirements and process abnormalities
Uses safe working practices in the performance of duties and ensure proper safety practices are used by all operators
Complies and reviews a variety of work orders, work sheets, reports, and/or other related information
Assists other departments and performs other duties as assigned
Organizes work assignments and sets priorities
Performs and/or assists with work on water and wastewater systems and related equipment as necessary
Responds to emergency callouts and must reside within a reasonable response time
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the services to customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team
Represents the City with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public
Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or GED
Experience with safety, training, operation, and maintenance of equipment
Minimum three years of experience in repairing, diagnosing, and monitoring mechanical and electrical instrument components
Class C Water or Wastewater License required within two years of hire
Valid Texas class C driver's license is required with a good driving record

Concepts, materials, and terminology related to utilities systems
Federal, state, and local requirements pertaining to public utilities systems
Equipment used to operate, maintain, and repair utilities systems, particularly electrical and mechanical equipment, instrumentation, and related information systems
Best practices for operating information systems (including SCADA), networks and peripherals relating to public utilities
Industrial electronic control systems
Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work
Record keeping practices, both electronic and hard copy
Understanding of public works principles, practices and techniques for water operations and construction, and safety procedures and techniques
Understanding of computers and related equipment, hardware, and software
Basic programming and design for public utilities information systems, and basic trade mathematics

Reading and interpreting meters, gauges, charts, and a variety of instruments
Reading and interpreting design, PID, control, and electrical drawings
Works mostly outdoors in extremes of heat and cold
Works rotating on-call shift
Ability to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis and up to 80 pounds occasionally
Visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand/eye coordination, and manual dexterity necessary to operate tools and equipment associated with the job
Subject to repetitive motion and heavy manual labor such as painting, digging, building concrete forms, repairing asphalt, transporting, delivering and picking up trash containers and recyclables and water meters
May be subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, entering enclosed spaces, climbing ladders, and lifting such as repairing water and sewer lines, installing meters, weeding, landscaping, mowing grass and operating other equipment
Must pass pre-employment drug test
Must pass criminal history check
Must pass motor vehicle records check
Preferred
Certificate of training for courses related to pump and motor maintenance, SCADA and water or wastewater operations
Class B CDL
