Electrical Department Manager
TYG is collaborating with a prestigious engineering consultancy in Washington to find an Electrical Engineering Leader for their Seattle team. The role involves overseeing technical quality, team development, and strategic growth of the electrical discipline, while ensuring cohesive designs across various projects.
Responsibilities
Oversee the technical quality, consistency, and accuracy of electrical design deliverables
Establish and maintain department-wide design standards, templates, and calculation procedures
Review and seal construction documents for compliance, constructability, and code adherence
Lead the design of electrical systems for commercial and light industrial facilities, including:
Power distribution
Lighting and lighting controls
Communications and building systems integration
Fire detection and alarm systems
Support mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems through electrical controls and power infrastructure design
Perform engineering calculations, load studies, generator sizing, and utility coordination
Prepare technical specifications and equipment selections
Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam for design review, redlining, and limited drafting
Lead electrical project planning, staffing, and workload management
Coordinate closely with project managers and discipline leads to align schedules and deliverables
Support proposals, budgeting, scheduling, and effort estimation
Contribute to department strategy, growth planning, and succession development
Mentor engineers and designers, supporting onboarding, training, and professional development
Participate in firm-wide initiatives related to QA/QC, technology adoption, and process improvement
Serve as the primary electrical point of contact for select clients
Participate in client meetings and respond to technical inquiries
Maintain relationships with vendors and manufacturers; evaluate and select products
Support business development through proposals, presentations, and interviews
Represent the firm within professional organizations and industry events
Ensure compliance with NEC (2020), local jurisdictional requirements, and applicable standards
Guide electrification, decarbonization, and smart-building strategies where applicable
Support sustainability certifications such as LEED and similar programs
Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and materials to improve design quality and efficiency
Maintain familiarity with lighting design software and generator sizing tools (e.g., CAT, Cummins)
Drive continuous improvement of department documentation and workflows
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or higher) from an accredited program
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license strongly preferred
15+ years of electrical engineering experience within commercial and light industrial markets
Experience delivering projects such as commercial buildings, industrial facilities, transportation infrastructure, and educational campuses
Demonstrated leadership experience managing electrical teams, including supervision, hiring, and performance development
Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously across all project phases
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
Working knowledge of lighting, fire alarm, power, and control systems
Familiarity with CSI specification formats
Strategic mindset with the ability to align technical direction with business goals
Collaborative leadership style that encourages accountability and cross-discipline coordination
Strong communication, documentation, and mentoring capabilities
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within team environments
Strong time management, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
