City of Portland is seeking five summer temporary Recreation Leader Generalists to support the Free Lunch + Play program across various public parks. The role involves providing hands-on mentorship to counselors, ensuring compliance with health guidelines, and supporting the daily operations of the program.

Responsibilities

Provide hands-on support and mentorship to (100) Counselors during the season

Engage with youth, deliver group management site support, and contribute to a positive program environment

Ensure compliance with Federal Lunch and Multnomah County Health guidelines

Drive a city van to multiple parks daily, responding to texts and calls, delivering supplies and prepared meals, and adapting to daily schedule changes

Support the daily operation of Free Lunch + Play park sites and staff

Conduct pre-season site preparation and post-season tear-down activities

Act as a Lead Counselor when needed, delivering excellent customer service to both staff and the community

Work outside in all types of weather

Required

Ability to establish and maintain relationships, and communicate, orally with internal and external audiences, such as staff, city employees, program participants, youth, and the public

Ability to support seasonal/casual staff and enforce rules, policies, and procedures

Experience instructing and leading activities to youth ages 1-18

Experience applying the principles of customer service

Have a valid state driver's license and acceptable driving record

Possess or obtain a valid Food handler card within two weeks of hire

Obtain a current CPR/AED certification within two weeks of hire

Have the ability to lift and move equipment daily, with the assistance of hand trucks and carts, that weigh up to 30 pounds
