Responsibilities

Lead a diverse engineering sub-section ranging from interns and early-career engineers to senior professionals, providing day-to-day direction, coaching, and performance feedback
Staff programs and projects by assigning engineers based on skill, experience, and development needs, balancing workload across the team
Develop talent through mentoring, training, and stretch assignments, building deep domain expertise in rotating machinery, electronics packaging, structural analysis, and materials
Foster an inclusive, high-performing culture grounded in safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Conduct performance management activities, including goal setting, mid-year and year-end reviews, development plans, and succession planning for critical roles
Provide technical guidance for the design, analysis, and evaluation of:
Rotating electric generators and motors (high-speed aerospace applications)
Complex electronics packaging for power converters and control electronics
Structural components and housings for mechanical and electromechanical assemblies
Materials selection and application for high-temperature, high-reliability environments
Review and approve engineering deliverables, including 3D models, drawings, analyses, technical reports, and design reviews, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and customer requirements
Apply sound engineering principles and best practices (mechanical, materials, and related electrical interface considerations) to achieve robust, producible, and maintainable designs
Drive design integrity and configuration control, ensuring proper use of engineering tools, digital systems, and documentation standards
Support execution of New Product Introduction (NPI) and design change programs, ensuring mechanical design content is appropriately planned, resourced, and delivered on time
Coordinate with program managers, systems engineering, electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, and supply chain to align priorities, manage risks, and resolve technical issues
Monitor and report engineering status, including key milestones, risks, mitigation plans, and resource constraints for the mechanical design scope
Champion root cause and corrective action for design-related issues, field events, test findings, and manufacturing challenges
Influence the development of strategy for NPI design efforts, including resource planning, skill development, and technology investments relevant to mechanical design of generators and power converters
Contribute to policy and process formulation within the mechanical engineering function, helping shape design standards, validation strategies, and design review rigor
Drive continuous improvement in engineering workflows, tools, and methods (e.g., standard work, design reuse, digital design practices), improving productivity and first-time yield
