Assistant Professor in Water Resources Engineering
The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science is seeking an Assistant Professor in Water Resources Engineering within the A. James Clark School of Engineering. The role focuses on integrating water resources engineering with emerging technologies to improve access to safe water systems and enhance sustainability and community resilience.

Integrate the physical and practical fundamentals of water resources engineering with emerging artificial intelligence and sensing technologies
Work to improve the access of all people to safe and reliable water systems
Enhance sustainability and community resilience to water-driven hazards
Increase health, food, and economic security
Demonstrate strong technical knowledge in one or more foundational areas within water resources engineering
Demonstrate ability to develop a vigorous, independent, externally funded research program and maintain a strong publication record
Demonstrate the ability to teach water resources classes effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels
Promote workforce development and inclusive excellence in the field through research and teaching
Qualification
Required
An earned doctoral degree in water resources engineering or a closely related field
Ability or potential to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels

Demonstrate strong technical knowledge in (a) one or more foundational areas within water resources engineering, such as hydrology, hydraulics, coastal applications, environmental fluid mechanics, urban hydrology, stormwater management, water supply and distribution, and ecosystem/stream/river restoration, and (b) one or more advanced technologies, such as physics-informed AI, explainable AI, data science, machine learning, deep learning, and remote and/or in situ sensing systems
Demonstrate ability to develop a vigorous, independent, externally funded research program and maintain a strong publication record
Demonstrate the ability to teach water resources classes effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels
