Paralegal II or III
The State of Oklahoma, through the Oklahoma State Department of Health, is seeking a Paralegal II or III to provide support in legal and administrative matters. The role involves preparing for hearings, conducting legal research, and ensuring compliance with legal standards while working under minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
Provides support in a variety of administrative matters, as well as preparation for hearings in administrative, State, and Federal courts, and compliance with the Oklahoma Open Records Act
Composes and gathers various legal documents and forms
Independently researches, locates, and assembles documents and information responsive to discovery requests, open records requests, subpoenas, and other third-party requests for information and/or documentation
Helps OSDH legal coordinate with other divisions within the agency to gather data and documents in preparation for various administrative actions and court filings
Organizing legal case files including the preparation and maintenance of files and ensuring timely updates to the electronic case management system
Prepares and analyzes correspondence, pleadings, motions, and other case files under direct supervision, review, and approval of OSDH attorney
Performs legal research and reports findings and conclusions
Schedules and attends depositions
Prepare court exhibits
Assists attorneys in ensuring deadlines are met, including deadlines for court filings and agency rule drafting
Files orders, judgments, pleadings, briefs, and other documents on behalf of the attorneys and assists with service via email or certified mail
Works in a high-performance environment, presented with multiple tasks and competing timeframes to produce results under relatively, high-pressure, and high-sensitivity situations
Performs related work assignments independently with limited supervision for each assigned attorney
Communicate with program areas to meet the needs of all claims submitted for approval through attorneys in the General Counsel office
Develops and maintains system for the intake of open records requests and other information requests
Coordinates and monitors the tracking of open records requests and develops and maintains resulting records, filing systems and program databases
Work closely with attorneys to monitor, process & track the Travel email daily. Work to establish a tracking system for all yearly travel to include costs
Demonstrates knowledge of and supports mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior
Works effectively in a team environment, participating and assisting their peers
Maintains system for the intake of subpoenas and other information requests
Develops and maintains a system for litigation files

Qualification
Required
Successful completion of an accredited program of study for legal assistants/paralegals and two years of experience as a paralegal or equivalent; Or a bachelor's or associate degree in any field from an accredited institution and two years of experience as a paralegal or equivalent; or five years of experience as a paralegal or equivalent plus one of the following: five years of full-time substantive work experience or coursework in paralegal studies equivalent in semester hours to an accredited paralegal studies program
Successful completion of an accredited program of study for legal assistants/paralegals and five years of experience as a paralegal or equivalent; or a bachelor's or associate degree in any field from an accredited institution and five years of experience as a paralegal or equivalent; or seven years of experience as a paralegal or equivalent plus one of the following: seven years of full-time substantive work experience or coursework in paralegal studies equivalent in semester hours to an accredited paralegal studies program
Applicants must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position and possess a valid driver's license
If education, certification or licensure is required to meet qualifications, applicants must provide documentation at the time of application

Preferred
Knowledge of the administrative functions of a legal office; of trial and hearing procedures, especially administrative hearing processes, and the preparation needed for such; of legal research methods; and of Oklahoma Open Records requirements
Skill in seeking out, organizing, compiling, and analyzing documents and data; in performing legal research; in communicating effectively both orally and in writing; and in juggling multiple high priority deadlines simultaneously and assisting attorneys in doing the same
