Preschool Classroom Assistant 3rd Person
CenClear is seeking a Preschool Classroom Assistant to support classroom teachers and ensure effective delivery of services in compliance with programmatic regulations. The role involves providing educational support to children, assisting with administrative tasks, and ensuring a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities
Completes and submits time slips according to guidelines
Complies with Administrative Memos
Cooperates with Center and Administrative staff
Performs other tasks as requested
Must be trained to assume role of the teacher if needed to substitute
Recognizes, praises, and supports children for efforts and accomplishments
Provides opportunities for each child to experience success and earn praise and develop a positive attitude toward new experiences
Helps children accept failure without defeat
Helps children learn to problems solve and development skills in all areas of development
Avoids sexual and/or racial/ethnic stereotyping
Provides classroom experiences that are culturally responsive
Provides many opportunities for positive interactions between all children and adults
Models appropriate behavior and classroom management techniques at all times
Provides active supervision within the classroom
Accepts each child's language while encouraging the use of English and the child's home language
Provides opportunities to talk about feelings and share humor
Shows affection and personal regard for each child via physical contact, use of child's name, etc
Uses only positive methods of classroom management. Implements practices according to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) guidelines
Encourages and teaches independence and self-help skills
Provides opportunities to share responsibilities
Encourages developmentally appropriate expectations for all children
Works as a team member with all classroom and center staff
Performs related job assignments as requested
Buys food for breakfast, snack and food experiences according to guidelines and if needed
Prepares and cleans up breakfast and snack according to guidelines
Notifies the food service helper, cook, or Home Visitor when changes occur in the normal schedule
Follows mealtime procedures according to guidelines
Complies with all memos
Performs other duties as requested
Is available to transport children in agency vehicles to and from class, if eligible
Substitutes as a bus aide when needed
Obtains a minimum of 24 hours of training each year
Obtains all required training
Keeps Professional Development Record (PDR) always updated
Reach overhead
Lift and carry objects over fifty (50) pounds
Bend to a child's level and retrieve items from the floor
Stand for extended periods of time with reasonable breaks
Sit at child size tables
Participate in gross motor activities
Walk and stand for periods of over one hour
Hold children on their lap
Climb stairs
Operate kitchen appliances
Stoop to move objects
Use sweeper and other cleaning apparatus (push and pull)
Sit on the floor for over thirty minutes
Vision and hearing within normal limits
Hand wash and rinse dishes using chemical disinfectants
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or G.E.D. (classroom assistants acting as 3rd person in classroom)
Head Start classroom assistants-must have a minimum of a preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) and if not, must be enrolled in a CDA course upon hire. The CDA credential must be completed within two years of hire. CDAs that are not preschool must be converted to a preschool CDA
PreK Counts classroom assistants-must have 'highly qualified' certificate before hire. Those with highly qualified status must obtain Preschool CDA
PreK Counts classroom assistants-must have a minimum of a Preschool CDA. PreK Counts classroom assistants can be hired with a non-preschool CDA but must convert this to a preschool CDA within 6 months of hire
Classroom assistants acting as a third person in the classroom are encouraged to obtain the CDA credential for Preschool when offered
