Associate Accounting Technician / Bureau of Motor Vehicles
The State of Maine is seeking a proactive and driven Associate Accounting Technician to join their IFTA/IRP Unit at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. This role is essential for ensuring the accurate processing of commercial fuel tax returns, motor carrier registrations, and license applications while providing exceptional customer service to the public and businesses.

Responsibilities
Review and verify IFTA license applications, fuel tax returns, and Maine-only decal requests for accuracy and completeness
Respond to inquiries from commercial carriers and the public via phone, email, fax, mail, and walk-ins
Assist customers in navigating the IFTA/IRP online system
Process credential requests and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Reconcile payments and ensure that collected revenue matches expected amounts
Provide technical support to customers and collaborate with internal teams to improve service delivery
Qualification
Required
Training, education, and/or experience in office and administrative support work
Demonstrate competency in applying a solid knowledge of the principles and practices of quality customer service to perform complex work in assisting the public with applications and fees that have an eligibility or compliance component
The ability to use independent decision making and initiative on the appropriate process to follow, information to process, and actions to take in accordance with standard procedures
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States
Preferred
Experience working with financial documents, taxes, or licensing systems
A background in state government, commercial motor vehicles, or regulatory compliance
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and an aptitude for learning new systems (including Tableau)
Excellent communication and math skills
A commitment to customer service and public service excellence
