Technical Writer

The Technical Writer is responsible for creating and delivering high-quality documentation that translates complex technical information into clear and concise materials for both internal and external audiences.

Finance

Responsibilities

Research, write, edit, and produce technical documentation such as system manuals, user guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other deliverables
Convert complex technical concepts into user-friendly language tailored to the target audience
Develop supporting assets, including diagrams, graphics, and charts, to enhance content readability and comprehension
Partner with engineers, developers, SMEs, and project managers to gather input and ensure accuracy of technical content
Participate in document reviews and incorporate feedback from stakeholders to refine content
Act as a communication bridge between technical and non-technical teams to ensure alignment
Contribute to the development of government proposals, compliance documentation, and contractual responses (e.g., RFPs, RFQs, RFIs)
Write, organize, and format technical sections of proposals to ensure clarity, compliance, and persuasiveness
Draft technical reports, meeting minutes, and progress documentation as required by project milestones
Proofread and edit documentation for grammar, punctuation, consistency, and adherence to style guides
Ensure all deliverables comply with organizational policies, industry standards, and any applicable regulations (e.g., FAR requirements, Section 508 accessibility standards)
Maintain version control of documents and ensure updates are distributed appropriately
Establish and maintain documentation templates, standards, and style guidelines
Suggest improvements to document development processes and practices to enhance efficiency
Stay updated on trends in technical writing and incorporate best practices into deliverables
Organize and manage documentation repositories, ensuring materials are stored, updated, and retrievable
Implement content management systems to streamline documentation workflows
Track document changes and manage revisions to ensure deliverables remain current

Required

Bachelor's-level degree from a recognized college or university. Alternatively, qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis
If no degree is obtained, 6 years of experience is required
A minimum of two (2) years of experience performing IT technical writing. Experience can include being in a position as a specialist or research assistant in a technical field
A minimum of three (3) years of experience and expert-level skill in developing technical documentation
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in supporting the development of Request for Proposal (RFP) solicitations, Request for Information (RFI) solicitations, and other solicitation documents for IT projects
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, professional, and articulate manner
Strong customer service skills
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail
Ability to analyze systems and procedures
Strong multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple design streams across concurrent work effort
Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as on a multi-functional team
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately

Preferred

Master's degree or doctorate from a recognized college or university
Three (3) or more years of experience performing IT technical writing. Experience can include being in a position as a specialist or research assistant in a technical field
Four (4) or more years of experience and expert-level skill in developing technical documentation
Three (3) or more years of experience contributing to the creation of RFPs, RFIs, and other solicitation documents for IT projects
