CODE COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST

Kitsap County is seeking a Code Compliance Specialist to support the Department of Community Development and the Kitsap Nuisance Abatement TEAM. This role involves overseeing case file management, ensuring legal accuracy, maintaining data integrity, and coordinating communication with the public to support enforcement operations.

Responsibilities

Support and drive enforcement operations by assisting code enforcement staff and KNAT members with case preparation, coordination, scoring, hearings, abatements, and trial-related activities across multiple concurrent cases
Oversee case file management by preparing, organizing, assembling, and maintaining enforcement records while ensuring compliance with local, State, and Federal rules, deadlines, and mandatory timelines
Ensure legal accuracy and procedural compliance by preparing notices, orders, liens, citations, correspondence, and other enforcement documents; coordinating approvals; documenting service or posting; and confirming timely filing
Maintain real-time case tracking and data integrity by updating SmartGov and other electronic or physical databases to reflect current case status and enforcement actions
Coordinate communication and public interaction by responding to citizen CRMs, addressing staff and public inquiries, scheduling appointments, and arranging meetings or consultations between enforcement staff and involved parties
Navigate complex work independently, exercising discretion under limited supervision in a legally regulated environment

Code Enforcement CertificationLegal Assistant CertificationCase ManagementData Integrity ManagementPublic Communication

Required

Minimum of two (2) years of administrative, clerical, or specialized office experience, ensuring readiness for complex office operations

Preferred

Preferred certification as an American Association of Code Enforcement (AACE) Enforcement Officer or Administrator
Preferred certification as a National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) Legal Assistant or Paralegal
Preferred experience of at least one (1) year in civil or criminal enforcement support
