The successful candidate will lead and manage a patent practice group, oversee patent drafting and prosecution, and contribute to strategic client outcomes and firm growth.
Law Practice
Responsibilities
Lead preparation, drafting, and prosecution of patent applications across the firm’s growing oil and gas portfolio
Provide strategic intellectual property counsel, including patentability opinions, freedom-to-operate analysis, portfolio development, and claim strategy
Supervise, mentor, and develop junior attorneys, patent agents, and support personnel
Work directly with inventors, technical teams, and executives to convert complex technology into strong patent protection
Review and advise on patent portfolios in connection with transactions, licensing, enforcement, and valuation
Manage client relationships with a focus on client service excellence and sustained engagement
Contribute to business development initiatives and expand the firm’s technology patent client base
Qualification
Required
Minimum of fifteen years of patent law experience with sustained focus on patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio strategy
Minimum of 10 years in oil and gas patent law, documented experience in oil and gas technology patents, or closely related engineering fields
Substantial experience managing patent prosecution at scale, including office action responses, claim drafting, and allowance strategy
Extensive involvement with patent office procedure and practice
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
Active admission to the bar in one or more U.S. jurisdictions
Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office
Demonstrated ability to interpret complex technical information and translate it into an effective patent strategy
Proven record of supervising and mentoring attorneys or technical staff
Demonstrated ability to contribute to business development and revenue growth
Strong communication skills appropriate for senior leadership and client advisory roles
Capacity to thrive in a dynamic, high-growth environment with an expanding patent portfolio
