Camp Director

Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains Inc. is dedicated to empowering young girls through camp programming. The Camp Director will oversee the daily operations of the camp, manage staff, and ensure compliance with safety and health regulations while fostering a positive camp environment.

Responsibilities

Must reside at Camp Sunday-Friday during summer
Supervises administration and direction of summer camp program
Communicates with assigned Council staff weekly with camp updates
Completes Camp Director leadership training and facilitates camp staff training
Completes evaluations mid-summer and end of summer for all camp staff
Oversees the fiscal management of camp expenses, keeps receipts, manages camp credit cards, all purchases for camp, keeping all purchases in alignment with the approved budget
Oversee the daily operation of summer camp including food service program, program, business, camper and staff supervision, and healthcare in general
Upon check-in and check-out, welcomes families, and troubleshoots. Makes sure all staff are accounted for and units are prepared accordingly
Conducts weekly staff meetings
Conducts daily meetings with Assistant Camp Directors to get and give updates on camp programming, staff, and campers
Ensures staff time is entered accurately in Paylocity throughout the summer every week before staff leave for the week
Stays vigilant with all American Camper Association (ACA) guidelines and assists in any inspections by ACA and the State of Texas
Stays vigilant with weather updates and safety procedures
Communicates with the Site Manager for all weather updates and safety procedures
Learns evacuation procedures
Trains staff and campers on weather safety and evacuation procedures
Communicates with Outdoor Manager and HR any staff or camper incidents
Makes sure all staff follow through with their job descriptions. Assists with assigning staff activities and other responsibilities
Manages the monitoring of safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all staff and campers
Helps provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among staff and promotes team collaboration. Discourages gossip and encourages comradery
Must be able to drive a camp vehicle and be physically able to respond to emergency situations
Manages overnight issues campers may have
Calls campers’ parents to report any misconduct
Maintains effective and positive public relations with parents, vendors, and members of the community
Maintains awareness of camper and staff behavior, evaluates and responds to situations appropriately, ensures adherence to safety regulations and emergency procedures, and employs appropriate behavior-management strategies, demonstrating steady leadership under pressure
Evaluates the current season and makes suggestions for the following season
Supervises the opening and closing of camp, return supplies and vehicles to the corporate office

Required

Minimum 25 years of age
Required valid CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (will be provided if needed)
Commitment to the mission and purpose of Girl Scouting
Must be willing to collaborate with all people without regard to race, religion, ethnic origin, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, or disability
Experience and/or education in general Outdoor Education or Girl Scouts
Ability to coordinate on-site business activities
Desire and ability to work with children and adults in a camp community
Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and produce results
Ability to work a flexible schedule while residing at camp
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint
Verbal fluency, good grammar, and professional appearance
Have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license, an acceptable driving record, acceptable insurance, and reliable transportation
You must complete and pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, and drug screening
