Responsibilities
Responsible for the data architecture framework, design, strategy standards, and principles, including modelling, metadata, reference data and master data
Complete data architecture artefacts for all solutions
Investigate and evaluate data sources to identify limitations and determine reliability and usability
Identify data redundancies and define and implement a road map to resolve
Design and implement data quality resolution strategies in conjunction with business and technical stakeholders
Implement appropriate data security controls to ensure that data is kept safe
Design and document conceptual, logical and physical data models and repositories using a variety of data modelling techniques
Provide technical guidance and leadership in technology proposals, RFIs, RFPs, and project teams
Keep abreast of the latest integration technology trends and emerging technologies, determine the potential impact on the enterprise, and drive adoption as deemed appropriate
Contribute to the Barloworld IT Architecture Governance and alignment to the Group IT architecture
Ensure the overall Data Architecture Creation, Optimization, and Maintenance
Collaborate with business and technology teams to clarify and guide the evolution of system solutions
Provide with IT consultation services to project teams and clients and techniques and the ongoing assessment of their relevance and potential value to the organization
Qualification
Required
Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
Related honours degree
Relevant industry certification, e.g. TOGAF
A minimum of 5 years' experience in data architecture and / or solution architecture
Experience in ETL design, tools (SAP Data Services) and good understanding of ETL solution architectures
Expert experience with database and data warehouse technologies (SQL Server, MySQL, or equivalent)
Reporting and analytics tools (e.g., QlikView and/or Power BI), Database and concept skills, reporting
Database technologies (e.g. SAP Hana, Teradata or similar) and database development (Views, Functions and Stored Procedure development)
Specialist knowledge of software technology and programming languages
Specialist knowledge of database constructs and database queries
Sound understanding of development practices and methodologies
Understanding and knowledge of IT service management (ITSM) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
Knowledge and understanding of different modelling languages (such as UML , etc)
Understanding and knowledge of IT standards and controls
Highly developed communication skills to elicit information and explain complex concepts in non-technical language
Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and influence a variety of stakeholders
Well-developed critical and conceptual thinking and problem solving skills to perform in-depth analysis of solution requirements and develop new IT infrastructure solutions
