Principal Mechanical Structural Engineer (Hybrid)

RTX is a leader in aerospace technology, seeking a Principal Mechanical Structural Engineer to provide technical and analytical support for Engine & Control Systems and Environmental and Airframe Control Systems products. The role involves performing structural analysis, creating test plans, and participating in cross-discipline teams to develop effective aerospace solutions.

Responsibilities

Perform structural analysis of conventional & additively manufactured complex aerospace components including static, dynamic, thermal (steady state & transient), fatigue life, fracture mechanics (residual life) predictions and damage tolerance analyses
Provide documentation of analyses results and recommendations in the form of formal reports and presentations for management and customers
Assist in creating test plans and support validation and verification testing of components for thermal and dynamic performance and behavior. Use this information to calibrate and improve the analytical methods
Participate in cross-discipline integrated product team as structures focal to provide design recommendations and solutions to develop products that meet technical, weight and cost targets
Continuously pursue ways to develop, improve, and validate analytical methods and processes to improve productivity and cost effectiveness

Required

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
Experience with finite element modeling tools such as Abaqus, Ansys, Nastran or equivalent

Preferred

Experience in fracture mechanics and NASGRO or equivalent tool is a plus
Possess experience in 2D and 3D CAD tools including, UG NX, CATIA or equivalent
Experience in dynamic/vibration analysis and testing
