Responsibilities
Define and own the strategy for AI applications across the digital product portfolio, with emphasis on large language models and generative AI platforms
Drive an enterprise-wide AI applications strategy focused on consistency, scalability, and responsible AI practices
Establish and lead a Center of Excellence for Applied AI, creating reusable frameworks, standards, and accelerators
Partner with product and business leaders to identify high-impact AI opportunities
Guide build-versus-buy decisions for applied AI systems, balancing speed, scalability, and intellectual property ownership
Build, lead, and mentor a cross-functional team of AI and machine learning engineers
Foster a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and pragmatic execution
Support technical growth and career development across all experience levels
Oversee the design and delivery of AI-powered applications, including conversational interfaces, intelligent agents, workflow automation, and recommendation systems
Ensure solutions are production-ready, scalable, secure, and observable, with strong testing and monitoring practices
Drive adoption of modern generative AI practices, including: Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), Model fine-tuning, Prompt and context engineering, Evaluation frameworks and safety guardrails
Serve as a key partner to executive stakeholders, clearly communicating progress, risks, and outcomes
Translate complex AI concepts into clear business impact narratives
Act as a thought leader and internal advocate for applied AI capabilities
Qualification
Required
10+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in a Director-level or equivalent leadership role
Proven success building and leading teams that deliver production-grade AI and machine learning applications
Deep expertise in large language models, generative AI frameworks, and applied AI systems
Strong backend and platform engineering background with fluency in Python and at least one additional modern language (e.g., Go, Node.js, Rust)
Experience deploying AI systems at scale using cloud-native architectures, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines
Familiarity with MLOps and generative AI ecosystems, including orchestration, evaluation, and observability tooling
Experience working with Amazon-managed AI and cloud services
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred
Experience building large-scale, consumer-facing digital platforms
Familiarity with highly available API platforms and emerging AI infrastructure patterns
Strong understanding of microservices and event-driven architectures
Experience scaling systems globally in cloud-native environments
Demonstrated mindset of rapid experimentation, continuous learning, and iterative improvement
