Director of Clinical Informatics

Responsibilities

Articulate and drive a strategic vision for clinical informatics aligned with organizational goals
Serve as the strategic liaison between medical, nursing, and allied health staff, clinical operations, and information services leaders and teams
Bridge the gap between clinical practice and technology by translating clinical requirements into technical specifications
Champion the design, implementation, and optimization of the Epic EHR and other clinical technology systems
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement in clinical informatics to address clinical challenges
Advance emerging technologies including fostering responsible design, implemention, and evaluation of artificial intelligence and other automation tools embedded in clinical workflows
Maintain relationships with clinical technology vendors and strategic partners
Represent clinical informatics and the organization in regional and national health care forums, academic informatics societies, and health technology industry conferences, presenting and publishing nationally and teaching and mentoring trainees and colleagues
Align people, processes, and technology to support evidence-based, efficient, and effective care delivery and operations
Guide workflow redesign and change management initiatives to enhance clinician experience and system usability
Work to integrate clinical decision support tools into the EHR to guide clinicians in making informed decisions
Act as a catalyst for change, promoting the adoption of new technologies and practices across disciplines
Analyze clinical workflows and redesign them to optimize patient safety, care coordination, and clinician efficiency
Establish effective governance structures to support shared decision-making and informatics leadership across disciplines
Engage clinical education and technology training teams to ensure effective, efficient, and engaging training experiences in Epic and other clinical technologies used by health care professionals across the continuum of care
Develop and oversee an Epic clinician builder program for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals
Build a pipeline of clinical informatics education and curate academic opportunities for students, trainees, and professionals
Promote standardization, clinical decision support tools, and advanced analytics to reduce harm and improve outcomes
Partner with clinical, quality/safety, and regulatory teams to ensure technology solutions support organizational compliance, continuous survey readiness, and adherence to high reliability principles
Maintain awareness of industry regulatory landscape and interpret them for integration into technology and clinical practice
Ensure clinical informatics practices align with professional standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies
Provide leadership and subject matter expertise in clinical technology downtime and disaster planning and recovery efforts

Required

Master's or other advanced degree in nursing, clinical informatics, information systems, business or health care administration, or a related field
Minimum of seven years of clinical informatics practice, including recent use of Epic, preferably with direct Epic implementation experience
Minimum of five years in direct patient care, with experience in pediatrics and academic health systems strongly preferred
At least 3 years of leadership experience in clinical practice, clinical informatics, information technology, or other applicable role(s)
This position requires that the appropriate Epic certification be successfully obtained and maintained for the assigned area of responsibility within 6 weeks of completing training, if not obtained prior to hire
Nursing informatics certification such as ANCC Informatics, CPHIMS, American Medical Informatics Association AHIC, or other formal education and training in clinical informatics
Proven ability to lead and inspire disparate stakeholders and align end users to achieve organizational goals
Excellent executive presence and large group presentation and communication skills, able to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with clinical, operational, administrative, and technical stakeholders as well as executive leaders across clinical departments and business units
Knowledge of formal change management frameworks and demonstrated experience in real-world system updates and implementations
Mastery of project management methodologies, capable of handling multiple initiatives simultaneously, including overseeing successful and fast-paced implementations of enterprise software including the electronic health record
Strong expertise in health information technology design, maintenance, and optimization, including electronic health records and other enterprise systems
Adept in all facets of interdisciplinary clinical workflows and health care operations, including revenue cycle, advanced analytics, and other business processes
Evangelizes clinical technology adoption and reimagines care processes to empower all nurses and allied health professionals to thrive
Takes initiative to solve problems pragmatically in partnership with organizational, departmental, and information services leaders
Unwavering dedication to the vision for enterprise information services to support our mission and core values

Ability to think creatively and develop forward-thinking system and process solutions

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) DNP, PhD, or equivalent in a clinical or technology field such as nursing, clinical informatics, health care administration, or a related field
Current and active RN or equivalent health care professional license
