Environmental/Seismic Engineer, Nuclear

System One is seeking an experienced Environmental/Seismic Engineer with a strong background in seismic and environmental qualification to support nuclear facility and safety-related equipment programs in Oak Ridge, TN. This role is critical to ensuring safety-related structures, systems, and components (SSCs) meet regulatory and design-basis requirements through rigorous qualification, testing, and analysis.

Responsibilities

Develop, execute, and maintain Equipment Qualification (EQ) plans for safety-related and important-to-safety equipment in nuclear facilities
Perform and support seismic qualification activities, including shake table testing, seismic analysis, and test report development
Conduct and oversee environmental qualification (EQ) testing in accordance with applicable standards and design-basis requirements
Support qualification programs aligned with IEEE-344 and IEEE-323 for electrical, electronic, and electromechanical equipment
Coordinate and oversee seismic and environmental testing performed at internal or external testing laboratories
Review, interpret, and approve test procedures, test data, and final qualification reports to ensure compliance with regulatory and project requirements
Support structural, seismic, and stress analysis activities for equipment and mounting configurations, as applicable
Interface with engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural), quality assurance, and facility operations to ensure technical accuracy and compliance
Ensure qualification activities comply with NRC, DOE, NQA-1, and project-specific quality program requirements
Support vendor evaluations, technical reviews, and qualification documentation for procured equipment
Maintain complete documentation, traceability, and configuration control for all qualification deliverables
Contribute to process improvements, lessons learned, and technical standardization efforts

Required

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Structural Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent relevant experience)
Experience supporting nuclear facility projects or safety-related equipment qualification programs is desired
Demonstrated experience with seismic qualification and/or environmental qualification testing
Ability to interpret seismic response data, environmental test results, and qualification documentation
Strong technical writing skills with experience preparing test plans, procedures, and qualification reports
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred

Hands-on experience with shake table testing and seismic test execution
Working knowledge of IEEE-344 and IEEE-323 qualification standards
Familiarity with AC-156 seismic qualification requirements
Experience supporting structural or stress analysis related to seismic loading and equipment anchorage
Knowledge of nuclear regulatory requirements, including NRC, DOE, and NQA-1 quality standards
Experience coordinating testing at third-party seismic or environmental test laboratories
Background in mechanical or electrical equipment used in nuclear facilities
