Engineering Scientist
The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an Engineering Scientist to join their Applied Research Laboratories. The role involves performing detailed systems engineering and technical analyses for advanced capability systems in defense-related applications, including design analysis, reliability assessments, and prototype development.

Responsibilities
Design analysis, including electrical/mechanical/software components, subassemblies, and integrated systems
Reliability analysis, failure modes assessments, failure consequences, mitigations, and safety impact assessments
System modeling and simulation
System operations, mission planning, and mission execution analysis
Prototype development and experimentation
Prepare and maintain accurate technical reports, briefings, and engineering documentation
Other related functions as assigned
Qualification
Required
Master's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or other related field
Three years of experience in systems engineering project activities, which may include requirements development and analysis, system development, design analysis, reliability analysis, and safety analysis
Knowledge of power distribution, network interfaces and communications, processing and memory architectures, and thermal dissipation
Knowledge of system technical documentation, including reading electrical schematics, block diagrams, and mechanical drawings
General knowledge of mechanical design techniques, parts, and materials used in military systems
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Proven ability to listen, remember both written and verbal directions, and consistently apply those instructions to your work
Evidence of skills in the following areas: working with new technologies, being highly organized, planning and coordinating multiple tasks, effective time management, attention to detail, effective problem solving skills, using excellent judgement, working independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, working as a team member without daily supervision, effectively communicating with all groups of clients, working under pressure, accepting supervision
US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position
Preferred
Master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or computer engineering
Ten years of experience in systems engineering and project development activities
Use of systems engineering tools, including model-based systems engineering (MBSE), reliability analysis tools, electrical or software design tools, CAD tools, FMEA analysis
Demonstrated ability to assess system designs and performance, including the use of sensors, actuators/controls, telemetry and fuzes
Demonstrated ability to develop and brief outside organizations in a professional meeting
Project leadership experience, including demonstrated ability to supervise a team of technical personnel
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 with at least a 3.2 in relevant coursework
