Robotics Engineering Intern

Vermeer is seeking a highly motivated and technical Robotics Engineering Intern to join their engineering team in Brooklyn. This role is designed for students or recent graduates passionate about hardware and software, focusing on high-impact projects involving robotic arms, computer vision, and autonomous drones.

Responsibilities

Own the development, testing, and optimization of robotic arm trajectories and motion planning
Develop and execute intrinsic and extrinsic camera calibration routines to ensure high-precision data for computer vision pipelines
Design and iterate on custom mounts, end-effectors, and drone components using CAD software (SolidWorks or Fusion 360)
Conduct rigorous field and lab tests (including flight testing), document failures, and suggest design improvements based on sensor data
Support R&D efforts for drone-related modules, focusing on hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) simulations and physical assembly

Required

Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Must be a current third or fourth-year student for BS students
Proficiency in Python or C++
Strong understanding of linear algebra, kinematics, and coordinate transformations
Experience with single-board computers or microprocessors (Jetson Orin, Raspberry Pi, etc.)
US Citizenship is required

Preferred

Exposure to UAV flight stacks like PX4 or ArduPilot
Experience with Git/GitHub for version control
Previous experience in a fast-paced hardware startup or research lab
