Accountant III - Financial Accounting and Reporting

The City of Phoenix is recognized on the Forbes list of America's Best-In-State Employers and is seeking an Accountant III for their Finance Department. This role involves performing advanced professional accounting work focused on financial reporting and ensuring the integrity of the Customer Care and Billing system.

Government

Responsibilities

Monitoring and ensuring quality in accounting entries
Developing and maintaining CC&B accounting and reconciliation procedures
Assisting with account reconciliations, and providing technical guidance and training to staff
Supports system testing, SFSF rate updates, and system upgrades
Contributes in the preparation of the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and annual financial reports for Enterprise and Joint Ventures
Assisting in the implementation of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, responding to department requests, and performing enterprise and joint venture accounting functions
Assisting in preparing monthly CC&B reconciliations; assisting in the design and implementation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal control systems; and serving as a professional accounting resource for special projects or major programs

Required

Four years of progressively responsible experience as a professional accountant, including some experience training and supervising paraprofessional and professional accounting personnel
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or public administration or a related field
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position

Preferred

Federal accounting and reporting techniques as applied to federal grants
Experience in account and general ledger reconciliations
Proficiency working with Excel and Word
Experience with SAP or other large ERP systems
Experience preparing financial statements and/or GAAP accounting experience
Governmental accounting and/or finance experience
Experience analyzing data and preparing financial reports
Experience researching financial/accounting issues and working with diverse stakeholders to implement solutions
