Responsibilities
Facilitate all aspects of cadet STCW and United States National licensure requirements
Ensure departmental processes are current and fulfill expectations and requirements as set forth by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), International Maritime Organization (IMO), United States Coast Guard (USCG), National Maritime Center (NMC), and Maritime Administration (MARAD)
Collaborate with and coordinate efforts with the State Maritime and United States Merchant Mariner Academies licensure coordinators
Use judgement and discretion reflective of a thorough knowledge of the Academy’s USCG approved programs
Refer to policies and practices for guidance to ensure a clear understanding of requirements
Participate in planning and improvement activities
Develop, recommend, and implement methods to meet programmatic or administrative goals
Qualification
Required
Working knowledge of and ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the US Coast Guard Licensing Program to develop conclusions and make recommendations
Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the US Coast Guard Licensing Program
Aptitude in the research, development and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university
Three years of technical or administrative experience
A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience
Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis
