Public Affairs Assistant
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Public Affairs Assistant to support their mission and activities. The role involves a variety of administrative support duties, including budgeting, media relations, and event coordination for the Office of Public Affairs.

Responsibilities
Responsible for a wide variety of administrative support duties for the Office of Public Affairs to include Congressional Affairs - Photography and Social Media
Responsible for Office of Public Affairs budgeting - supply management - purchasing - personnel administration - and timekeeping - data processing - and project tracking
Tracks and monitors reports - action items - and media queries assigned to Office of Public Affairs
Maintains and revises the office filing system and is the Records Liaison for Public Affairs
Prepares and responds to Patient Complimentary letters for Director's signature
Processes congressional inquiries utilizing Patient Advocate Tracking System - filing - and scanning
Maintains and updates media - veteran service organization - and congressional databases
Creates and writes news releases - feature articles - information packets - media kits - and fact sheets
Assists with logistics - coordination - and execution of special events - town halls - All Employee - stakeholder meetings - & outreach events
Functions as Public Affairs ADPAC - ensuring support and coordination of all computer applications for Public Affairs
Displays customer relations skills through effective communication (written and verbal) with internal and external customers
Represents Public Affairs at committee meetings - external events - and outreach events
Qualification

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement
For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year - it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade - as required by the announcement
In this instance - you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade
Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization
Knowledge of applicable administrative regulations - computer software - including Microsoft Office - and office management techniques
Skill and ability to coordinate effectively with superiors and employees to obtain and deliver information
Ability to write and speak clearly - presenting ideas in a precise and appropriate terminology
Knowledge of grammar - writing - and editing practices - and the style requirements of the media and the publications used
Knowledge of Facebook and Twitter and the skill to post articles and photos appropriate for the mission
