Responsibilities
Build core payment services: authorization/capture, refunds, voids, disputes and chargebacks, payouts, and settlement workflows
Design a robust ledger: implement double-entry (or equivalent) accounting primitives, reconciliation pipelines, and audit-ready data models
Integrate with payment providers: build and maintain integrations with PSPs, gateways, processors, and fraud/risk services; manage webhooks and event streams
Engineer for scale and reliability: implement idempotency, retries, safe concurrency, backpressure, and appropriate delivery guarantees
Own observability and operations: define metrics, tracing, and logging across payment lifecycles; participate in incident response and improve SLIs/SLOs
Build with security and compliance in mind: secrets management, encryption, least-privilege access, PCI-adjacent controls, and detailed audit trails
Optimize performance and cost: tune queues, databases, caching, and workflows to handle peak traffic efficiently
Qualification
Required
5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production environments
Strong API design and data modeling skills, including migrations, indexing, and transactional integrity
Experience designing distributed systems using queues, workers, and event-driven architectures
A track record of running high-availability services with solid monitoring, alerting, and postmortem practices
Comfort working in a fast-moving environment while maintaining a correctness-first engineering mindset
Background in an object-oriented language like Python
