Laboratory Automation Project Manager

As a Laboratory Automation Project Manager, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering complex laboratory automation projects, ensuring alignment between scientific requirements and technical implementation.

Responsibilities

Own end-to-end delivery of laboratory orchestration and automation projects, from initial scoping through deployment and handoff
Define project plans, timelines, milestones, and success criteria for complex, multi-system implementations
Manage scope, risks, dependencies, and change requests throughout the project lifecycle
Coordinate delivery of orchestrated workflows spanning software, robotics, liquid handling, schedulers, and data systems
Work closely with workflow engineers, software engineers, and application specialists to sequence work and resolve blockers
Ensure alignment between scientific requirements and technical implementation
Serve as the primary point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle
Lead technical and project-facing meetings, including requirements reviews, status updates, and delivery checkpoints
Set clear expectations with customers around scope, timelines, risks, and tradeoffs
Partner with internal teams including engineering, applications, and leadership to deliver successful outcomes
Coordinate with third-party vendors and instrument manufacturers as needed
Escalate issues appropriately and drive resolution across teams
Track project progress using appropriate project management tools and methodologies
Maintain clear documentation for requirements, decisions, timelines, and deliverables
Provide regular internal and external status reporting, highlighting risks and mitigation plans
Ensure projects meet Lab Sync’s quality standards and customer expectations
Capture lessons learned and contribute to improvements in delivery processes, templates, and best practices
Help define repeatable delivery models for orchestration projects as Lab Sync scales
Travel up to 5% within the United States for critical customer meetings, project milestones, and industry events
Coordinate occasionally with East Coast customers and teams, including some 9am EST meetings

Required

Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related technical or scientific field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of experience managing technical projects, preferably involving software, laboratory automation, or complex systems
Experience delivering projects that span multiple technical disciplines (software, hardware, scientific workflows)
Strong understanding of laboratory automation concepts, even if not hands-on implementing systems
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Proven ability to manage ambiguity, prioritize effectively, and drive execution

Preferred

Familiarity with automation platforms such as Hamilton, Green Button Go, Cellario, Tecan, Momentum, or similar systems
Experience working with scientific customers and laboratory environments
Background in software delivery, systems integration, or solutions engineering
Experience with agile, hybrid, or waterfall delivery models
PMP, PMI-ACP, or similar certification (not required)
