Instrumentation & Controls Technician

Easton Utilities is a community-owned utility and telecommunications company serving the Town of Easton and surrounding areas. The Instrumentation & Controls Technician will support the maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of critical control systems to ensure safe and efficient utility operations.

Responsibilities

Install, program, troubleshoot, and maintain Modicon and Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
Diagnose control logic issues, I/O problems, communications faults, and field device failures
Support automation upgrades to improve system reliability and operator visibility
Test, calibrate, and maintain protective relays, metering, and associated equipment
Troubleshoot instrument signals, wiring, and control interfaces
Support protection and control systems in substations and power plants
Provide hands-on technical support during outages, switching operations, and weather events
Assist with system commissioning, modifications, and modernization efforts
Support other utility departments and Town of Easton operations as needed
Prepare and update loop diagrams, I/O lists, schematics, and one-line drawings
Assist with writing specifications and procurement documents for electrical and control equipment
Provide technical analysis such as fault current, voltage drop, load flow, arc flash, economic studies, planning studies and forecasting
Available as needed to provide technical support during electrical outages and weather emergencies
Enhance the Electric Department’s service and productivity by providing support to other employees and filling in and completing other duties as requested by the Superintendent of Electric Maintenance

Required

Hands-on experience as an Instrumentation & Controls Technician or similar role
Experience installing and troubleshooting electrical systems and interfaces
Experience troubleshooting PLC-based control systems (Modicon preferred)
Familiarity with power plants, substations, or utility control systems
Experience with protective relaying, metering, or automation systems
Ability to read and interpret prints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and control drawings
Good communication skills to effectively work with department employees and customers
Knowledge of NESC, NETA, and NFPA codes and standards
Ability to write specifications for electrical purchases
Valid driver's license
Regular, reliable attendance
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

Preferred

Technical training, degree, military experience, or utility/industrial background strongly preferred
