The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) is a state public school dedicated to providing educational services to students with sensory impairments. The Information Specialist II role involves providing information and support to parents, professionals, and potential students, coordinating outreach initiatives, and facilitating campus tours and community events.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Guide the execution of Outreach Department hospitality efforts by monitoring and responding to email and phone requests for information and campus visits. Direct inquiries to appropriate departments/individuals. Provide customized tours of the FSDB campus upon request for prospective students and their families, professionals who work with sensory impaired students, and other interested and approved parties. Maintain an active knowledge of general FSDB information, staff roster, historical highlights, current/upcoming activities and events, and facts of interest. Facilitate an initial interview with those who submit tour requests to fully understand their reasons and goals for visiting. Complete preparation activities to schedule effective, customized tours of the FSDB campus to meet the needs of each request. Ensure that all relevant FSDB staff has been notified and expectant of visitors. Effectively communicate with guests to provide pre and post visitation details/information. Facilitate productive interactions between visitors and staff/students. Track data on tour requests and outcomes. Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to supervisor. Coordinate opportunities for community stakeholders to experience FSDB through showcases, open houses, expos, and interactive group learning events. Work with internal programs and departments to curate group experiences that provide external stakeholders with virtual and face-to-face opportunities to "meet" FSDB staff and explore our expertise and offerings. Complete and submit detailed after-action reports
Participate in FSDB Ambassador activities. Assist in the training and coaching of staff representing FSDB in the community through exhibits, conference interactions, collaborative inter-agency activities and meetings. Support the Executive Director of Outreach in identifying, prioritizing, scheduling, and preparing for appearances and opportunities to have a community presence through public exhibits during information fairs, conferences, etc. Travel to and act as an Ambassador at public events as scheduled. Provide information, resources, and presentations during public events and gatherings. Present approved and scripted content on FSDB programming, admissions processes, and Deaf/Blind topics. Distribute FSDB publications, brochures, and promotional items during planned activities. Track distribution of materials and gather stakeholder information for follow-up. Provide after-action reports for all public facing activities
Provide support for statewide education and collaboration initiatives of the Outreach Department. Work with Department team members to successfully execute educational opportunities. Share information about upcoming Outreach Department educational events and opportunities with stakeholders. Complete tasks related to registration and distribution of materials upon request. Be present during assigned events and assist with attendance, welcome activities, safety exercises, and other logistics. Travel to and carry out assignments as requested and engage with registrants and community partners in a positive way

Required

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of professional experience
Ability to display high standards of ethical conduct and confidentiality
Ability to establish and maintain ongoing relationships with supervisors and other employees
Experience with public speaking and customer service: positive, enthusiastic and authentic personality
Ability to adapt to continuous, significant, sudden or permanent changes or setbacks affecting priorities
Ability and skill to communicate, explain, and elaborate on complex ideas or information clearly and adapt to the audience's level of knowledge
Ability to organize thoughts, remember, and recount details
Ability to actively listen to others and clarify communications in a professional non-defensive manner
Ability to expressively use and receptively understand American Sign Language
Ability to maintain documentation and data in an organized and efficient manner
Ability to maintain a Valid State of Florida Driver's License and meet FSDB requirements to operate a state vehicle according to the Transportation Policy
Knowledge of and ability to use integrated Microsoft Suite applications including Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Access
Ability to operate various office machines such as copier, fax, printer, etc
Ability to pass training and administer skills acquired during CPR
Ability to obtain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24

Preferred

Ability to interpret ASL/English and English/ASL
