Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Pride Health is hiring a Clinical Laboratory Scientist I or II to support a client’s medical facility in San Juan Capistrano, CA. This contract opportunity offers potential extension and involves performing complex clinical laboratory tests and ensuring accurate results while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Perform moderate to highly complex clinical laboratory tests independently, including newly introduced tests requiring specialized skills
Prepare and oversee preparation of reagents, stock solutions, standards, and controls; test and evaluate new reagents and controls
Determine specimen acceptability and ensure accurate data calculations using manual or computerized methods
Accurately enter, verify, evaluate, and release routine and complex test results while maintaining turnaround times
Identify, address, and document critical or unexpected results
Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and performance checks of laboratory equipment
Perform and evaluate instrument checks, linearity, accuracy, precision testing, quality control, and calibrations
Select and evaluate control materials and initiate corrective actions when necessary
Participate in and document proficiency testing accurately
Detect and resolve technical and operational issues, escalating to supervisors or field support as needed
Maintain accurate labeling and tracking of reagents and supplies
Ensure a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and internal/external stakeholders
Participate in team meetings and Quality Improvement initiatives
Support special projects including procedure evaluation, cost analysis, reference range development, and SOP writing
Adhere to company policies, safety procedures, infection control, and waste disposal protocols
Maintain confidentiality and professional integrity at all times
Supervise and train unlicensed staff and assist with training programs as needed
Maintain continuing education in compliance with California licensure requirements
Answer phones, relay messages, and perform administrative tasks as needed
Use personal protective equipment and comply with health and safety standards
Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
California CLS License is required
0–3 years of direct experience in a clinical laboratory setting
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or a related Life/Physical Science from an accredited institution – Required
Current California State Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License – Required (no substitutions accepted)
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Strong typing skills
Frequently lift/carry 1–10 lbs; occasionally 11–25 lbs; rarely 26–50 lbs (assistance required if over 50 lbs)
Ability to perform repetitive tasks and fine motor manipulation with strong hand-eye coordination
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
Color vision testing required for applicable laboratory functions (e.g., fluorescent microscopy)
Preferred
Familiarity with laboratory automation systems (preferred)
Mass Spectrometry experience – Preferred
Chemistry background – Preferred
