Counseling and Development Specialist II

The Counseling and Development Specialist II is responsible for designing, implementing, and delivering academic support services and learning resource programs for medical students to promote their academic success and personal development.

Responsibilities
Meet with students during orientation to proactively assess skills, potential weaknesses, and optimize performance in the curriculum
Collaborate with academic faculty to provide faculty resources and support for student remediation needs
Coordinate academic support services and programs for all USMLE Step exams, and other exams required for students
Develop and implement required workshops for students in the areas of Time Management, Effective Study Strategies, Examination Preparation and Performance
Represent academic support services at meetings, seminars or conferences, such as Northeast Group on Educational Affairs or other professional societies addressing student success. Continuing education and knowledge of current trends, student needs, and innovative support services is important to meeting the needs of medical students
Evaluate and recommend the purchase of supplemental learning resources for medical students, graduate students, and residents
Work with faculty to design an early identification process for 'at-risk' students
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Higher Education or related field
Five years experience in academic and/or career counseling in a higher education setting
Preferred
Master's degree in education
Experience in medical school environment
Experience with STEP 1 and STEP 2 prep
Experience using diagnostic educational and learning tools. Assessments related to achievement, intellectual functioning, attention, test anxiety, DSM-V criteria, learning styles and career development; including but not limited to: WAIS, Woodcock-Johnson, Nelson-Denny, Myers Briggs, LASSI
