Responsibilities
Analyze HRRR model outputs and write AFD-style forecast discussions following structured guidelines
Describe weather phenomena at both regional and local scales (e.g., heavy showers, atmospheric rivers, cold fronts, high pressure systems)
Explain mechanisms of weather formation and evolution (e.g., frontal interactions, surface low development, convective initiation)
Address short-term and extended forecast implications based on model guidance
Produce discussions that exceed typical AFD quality in mechanistic detail and comprehensiveness
Maintain strict accuracy and consistency across all submitted work
Incorporate feedback from quality reviews to continuously refine output
Qualification
Required
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field
OR equivalent professional experience in atmospheric sciences with demonstrated forecasting expertise
Demonstrated ability to interpret numerical weather prediction (NWP) model outputs, specifically HRRR
Strong understanding of atmospheric dynamics, synoptic and mesoscale meteorology
Familiarity with NWS forecast products, AFD structure, and operational forecasting terminology
Ability to clearly explain physical mechanisms driving weather phenomena
Strong technical writing skills with attention to clarity and precision
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to consistency
Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a remote environment
