Responsibilities
Prepare in-depth, accurate, and timely written analyses of issues relevant to the Committee and provide accurate and comprehensive policy feedback to the Senator and committee members
Additionally, the Principal Consultant will identify policy ideas within the committee’s jurisdiction for consideration by the Chair and the Chief of Staff, and help staff any Joint Committee bills as appropriate
Act as an intermediary between Members and lobbyists, Administration staff, and other stakeholders
And track local, state and federal fiscal, regulatory and policy matters within the committee jurisdiction and provide regular briefings for the Chair and the Committee
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree is required
At least five years of policy or legislative experience
Knowledge/expertise in the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, disaster relief and preparedness generally
Successful applicants will have exceptional organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to work under strict deadlines
Be process-oriented
Ability to interact effectively with internal and external parties
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
Ability to balance time/workload demands with multiple deadlines
A strong work ethic is essential; late evenings and weekends can be expected when relevant issues are before the Legislature
Preferred
Graduate degree is preferred
Prior experience as a Committee Consultant is a plus but not required
