Confidential company is seeking a highly capable Assistant Controller to support and strengthen their accounting operations across Property Management and Construction. This role involves partnering closely with senior leadership to oversee accounting processes, ensure compliance, and optimize workflows as the company scales.

Responsibilities

Support and oversee month-end and year-end close processes across property management and construction entities

Review journal entries, reconciliations, and balance sheet accounts for accuracy and completeness

Assist in the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements and internal reporting packages

Ensure consistency and compliance with accounting policies and internal controls

Serve as a subject matter expert for: AppFolio (Property Management Accounting) and Sage Intacct (Construction / Corporate Accounting)

Identify, implement, and optimize accounting workflows and controls as the organization scales

Partner with the Controller on system enhancements, integrations, and reporting improvements

Support construction accounting activities, including job cost tracking, draws, and cost allocations

Oversee and review property-level accounting activities, ensuring accuracy across rent, AP, and reconciliations

Collaborate cross-functionally with Property Management, Construction, and Operations teams

Act as a point of escalation and support for the accounting team

Provide guidance, review, and mentorship to accounting staff as needed

Partner with the Director of AP to ensure smooth payables workflows and strong internal controls

Support audits, lender reporting, and external financial requests

Required

7+ years of progressive accounting experience

Strong understanding of GAAP and month-end close processes

Experience supporting audits and external reporting

Prior leadership, review, or mentoring experience

Hands-on experience with AppFolio

Preferred

Real estate, property management, construction, or multi-entity accounting experience strongly preferred

Sage Intacct (preferred; construction module experience a plus)

CPA preferred but not required
