Responsibilities
Provide specialized structural engineering support for planning, design, and construction of Navy and Marine Corps facilities
Prepare and review structural calculations, design analyses, specifications, and construction drawings for concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures
Support development of project scopes, design documentation, and cost estimates for military construction (MILCON), facility repair, and renovation projects
Conduct field investigations, site assessments, and structural condition evaluations to identify required repairs or modifications
Review design-build packages, contractor submittals, and shop drawings for technical accuracy and compliance with NAVFAC and UFC criteria
Ensure coordination of structural design with architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
Apply current Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), DoD, and ASCE standards to design deliverables
Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and value engineering studies
Provide technical support during construction, including RFI responses, design clarifications, and on-site problem resolution
Prepare reports, design summaries, and technical recommendations for project managers
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain NACI/CAC eligibility is required
Demonstrated experience preparing detailed analyses, drawings, and cost estimates for DoD or NAVFAC facilities or large-scale commercial facilities
Proficient with structural modeling software (STAAD Pro, SAP2000, RAM)
Knowledge of DoD and Navy design standards, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), ASCE 7, IBC, and federal design standards and requirements
Familiarity with federal, state, and local codes and regulations related to building and structural design
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to present design concepts and findings effectively
Experience with project budgeting, scheduling, and multi-discipline coordination
Commitment to NAVFAC safety policies and proper PPE usage during site visits and inspections
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program required
Minimum of 5 years of structural engineering design experience, including at least 1 year on Federal or DoD projects
Ability to stand/walk/climb/kneel/crouch and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the time
Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc
Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms
Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs
Ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away
Ability to understand the speech of another person, speak clearly so listeners can understand, and talk or hear both in person and by telephone
Preferred
Master's degree preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred
Autodesk (AutoCAD/Revit), Microsoft Office, and structural analysis software (STAAD Pro, RAM, SAP2000)
