Responsibilities
Legislative Strategy: Lead advocacy across all target states, both securing new guarantees and defending existing policies
Messaging: Use polling, data, and stakeholder stories to craft winning narratives for legislators and the public
Media: Serve as primary spokesperson, engaging journalists and influencers
Team Leadership: Manage two part-time staff, a government affairs consultant, and a legal volunteer
Grassroots Mobilization: Activate educator community in targeted advocacy campaigns, select legislative testimony, and media opportunities
Resource Management: Oversee portfolio of state lobbyists and national advocacy budget
Qualification
Required
8–15 years in political communications or policy advocacy
Track record managing multi-state campaigns with measurable impact
Systems thinker balancing legislative tactics with mission focus
Communicator who simplifies complex policy goals for busy stakeholders
Nimble operator who adapts decisively amid uncertainty
Passionate about financial equity and economic mobility
Leadership experience in advocacy, government affairs, or similar nonprofit/political roles
Experience managing lobbyists and external consultants
Success with grassroots mobilization and legislative testimony
Background using polling and data to drive policy outcomes
Strong budget management skills
