Water Quality Technician

Responsibilities
On-the-job training in a team environment to maintain continuously operating, water quality and meteorological instrumentation in the Indian River Lagoon and St. Lucie Estuary, Florida as part of the Indian River Lagoon Observatory Network of Environmental Sensors (IRLON)
Perform preventative maintenance, verification, and troubleshooting on water quality and meteorological instrumentation, in the laboratory, but primarily in the field from a small boat in estuarine and coastal environments
Adhere to IRLON Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure all QA/QC requirements are met. Accurately complete field sheets, calibration records, maintenance documentation, and related metadata. Assist with data retrieval and data verification
Able to work outside normal business hours with flexibility to start earlier or later depending on project requirements
Other job-related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of related experience required
Valid Florida driver's license or ability to obtain one within 30 days required
Ability to work off of a small boat in hot, humid conditions and variable weather required
Ability to lift heavy equipment (50 lbs.) required
Preferred
Degree in Marine Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
Ability to communicate effectively with staff across technical disciplines and work productively in a team environment
High degree of organization with strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to balance multiple tasks, environments, and a dynamic schedule
Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy and data quality
Experience with water quality and meteorological instrumentation, including CTDs (e.g., Sea-Bird Scientific), in situ optical fluorometers (e.g., ECO triplet), continuous nutrient sensors (e.g., SUNAv2), carbonate chemistry sensors (e.g., SeaFETv2 and CO₂-Pro CV), and Campbell Scientific dataloggers and telemetry systems
Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office, terminal emulator
Experience operating small boats, trailering, launching, and recovering vessels for field operations
