Planning Technician, Senior

NEOGOV is seeking a Senior Planning Technician to provide technical support and assistance to professional planning staff. The role involves processing development applications, assisting with technical support for case reviews, and providing planning information to developers and the public.

Responsibilities

Provides information to citizens, developers, engineers, and other City departments on application processes, ordinances and regulations
Reviews and processes residential building permits for compliance with the Zoning Ordinance and land use entitlement requirements
Provide technical and administrative support and assistance to professional planning staff
Responsible for processing development applications and plans, assisting Planners with technical support for case review and staff reports preparation and providing basic Planning information
Provides information to citizens, developers, engineers and other City departments on application processes, ordinances and regulations
Coordinates and monitors the status of Planning projects, including maintaining agenda calendars, checking application submittals for completeness, preparation of internal review routing documents, and preparing notification lists from Engineering
Reviews final plats for conformance with approval conditions prior to approval by Planners
Assists with and attends Planning and Zoning Commission meetings
Researches prior zoning and platting cases as needed
Provides back up support and attends Boards and Commissions managed by the Planning Department including but not limited to: scheduling, organizing meeting; recording and setting agenda
Prepares letters of approval to be sent to applicants after the appropriate bodies have considered cases
Complies with all written City policies and procedures
Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

The completion of an Associate's Degree in urban planning, construction management, social sciences, or related field or completion of Ninety (90) credit hours towards a Bachelor's in planning, geography, public administration or other related degree supplemented with (1) year experience and/or training involving planning and zoning; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements

Requires the ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information, such as data base reports, planning and zoning case applications, case files, zoning maps and ordinance, plats and site plans
Requires the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; ability to compute discount, interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportion; ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures
Requires ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives
Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties that are often characterized by frequent change
Requires the ability to perform coordinated movements, such as operating a computer terminal and printer and various office equipment
Pass a drug screen and a background check
The ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates and customers with respect
